An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Tura area of the West Garo Hills region of Meghalaya, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said on December 23.
According to NCS, the earthquake occurred at around 7.25 pm at a depth of 5 km. According to NCS, the epicenter of the earthquake was found at latitude 25.55 and longitude 90.48. However, the number of casualties has yet to be reported.
NCS posted, “Earthquake on Dec 23 at 19:25 IST of Magnitude: 3.5, Latitude: 25.55 & Longitude: 90.48, Depth: 5 km, Location: 28 km east of Tura, Meghalaya.”
This is the second time in a month that an earthquake has occurred in Meghalaya. An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale struck Meghalaya’s capital Shillong at 8:46 am on December 8, the National Center for Seismology said.

Meanwhile, an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas of Pakistan at around 5:30 am on December 22, shaking Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 16 kilometers.
Additionally, an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale was felt in Pakistan on December 18. However, casualties have been reported.

Earlier on December 18, at 3.38 pm, an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale had occurred in Kargil-Ladakh at a depth of 10 kilometers.
