US condemns vandalism of Hindu temple with anti-India graffiti, says ‘those responsible must be held accountable’ – Gudstory

A major Hindu temple was vandalized with anti-India graffiti in the US state of California. Now the US State Department has issued a statement saying, “We condemn the vandalism at the Shri Swaminarayan Temple Hindu temple in California.” We welcome the efforts of the Newark Police Department to ensure that those responsible are held accountable”.

Suspected pro-Khalistan activists allegedly damaged the Swaminarayan Temple in Newark, California, the incident came to light on Friday (local time), police said.

The outer wall of a Hindu temple was defaced with anti-India graffiti.

The incident comes at a time when the US Justice Department has sealed an indictment against an Indian national for his alleged involvement in a foiled plot to assassinate India-designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on US soil.

The Justice Department claimed that an Indian government employee (designated CC-1), who was not identified in the indictment filed in a federal court in Manhattan, arranged for Nikhil to hire a hitman to carry out the assassination. Gupta, who was foiled by US authorities, according to prosecutors.

Gupta is currently in custody and has been charged with murder-for-hire, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Czech authorities arrested and detained Gupta on June 30 under the bilateral extradition treaty between the United States and the Czech Republic.
