Notably, the prosecution evidence in the Soumya Vishwanathan murder case took almost 10 years to complete.

The matter came to light after the arrest of the accused in the murder case of IT professional Jigisha Ghosh. He was arrested on 28 March 2009 in the Soumya Vishwanathan case.

They were booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime (MCOCA).

Ravi Kapoor, accused along with Amit Shukla in the Jigisha Ghosh murder case, was sentenced to death by the trial court, which was commuted to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.

This 15-year-old case is related to the alleged murder of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, who worked in a private channel. On the night of the incident, she was returning home after a night shift and was allegedly shot dead.

The Delhi government had appointed a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) and the case was assigned to a special MCOCA court for speedy trial.

Later SPP resigned from his post. The case was delayed from the beginning and it took almost a decade to complete the prosecution evidence.

Delhi Police had invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) on the basis of the previous involvement of the accused persons in other heinous cases including the Jigisha Ghosh murder case.
