Harry Maguire has hit out at England fans who booed Jordan Henderson after Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over Italy.
The Three Lions booked their place at Euro 2024 after two goals from Harry Kane and a second-half strike from Marcus Rashford.
Henderson came on as soon as England won the match.
And some fans criticized and mocked the midfielder, with many believing he disappointed the LGBTQ community by leaving Liverpool for Al-Ettifaq in the summer.

Henderson has been a long-time supporter of the community, regularly wearing the rainbow armband and laces as Liverpool captain.
But he faced opposition over his decision to move to Saudi, a country where homosexuality is illegal and even punishable by death.
Henderson has attempted to forgive his Saudi switch – yet it’s done nothing to stop the bad boys from listening.
And Maguire has now fiercely defended his team-mate, insisting that ‘proper’ England fans do not attack their players.
“Proper England fans don’t criticize players,” the Manchester United star said.
“Don’t criticize the players who dedicate their lives to playing and do everything possible to give this country good memories and create special moments for them and their families.”
Maguire knows all about being scolded.
The United star has suffered a major decline in form over the past few years, which has led to widespread abuse online.
But he feels the real supporters are supporting both him and Henderson, adding: “I know a lot of the top England fans and they are England fans who have been with me since my debut.
“They’re right behind me and they’re right behind Jordan too.
“You hear a lot of cheering, yes some jeers, but they are not England fans.”
While some fans booed, England were able to hold off a tough challenge from Italy on a spectacular night at Wembley.
Gianluca Scamacca put the visitors ahead after West Ham flopped to open the scoring in the 15th minute.
After this, however, England took the lead and succeeded in turning the tide of the match.
Kane scored two goals either side of Rashford, who now feels he is producing the best football of his international career.
“We started the game well. We were just unfortunate not to score,” said the forward, who has scored just once for Manchester United so far this season.
“A few times in the first half they caught us overloading.
“We kept a cool head and tried to play the football we played in training and it paid off.
“Perhaps [I am playing the best football of my international career], I feel like I’m ready to kick ass.
“It’s about winning as many games as possible for me, whether you start or are on the bench.

Manchester City star Phil Foden said: “It was a fantastic performance, I thought our defensive work in particular was excellent.
“When you come up against teams like Italy you have to defend sometimes, they have very good quality and I think we showed that throughout the game.
“Happy with the result. That’s where we want to be by beating these big teams regularly.”
