Nearly 20 years before Russell Brand was publicly accused of sexual abuse, Australia’s Dannii Minogue warned about his predatory behavior.

In 2006 she told The Mirror, “He is completely crazy and a bit of a vile stalker. I definitely don’t think he’s cured his sex addiction, that’s for sure”.

“He won’t take ‘no’ for an answer… , He always goes a step further. Never far enough to slap him across the face, but usually pretty far.

“He’s obviously very intelligent – but he wears more makeup than me. Generally I like boys with eyeliner. It may be very sexy, but not on Russell. No way, never, he’s not my type.

“I was told he was fired from MTV for wearing an Osama bin Laden costume to work the day after September 11.

“I couldn’t believe I agreed to be interviewed by someone who would do something like that, it really upset me. And then throughout the entire interview he kept making shocking comments that I can’t even repeat. Just saying the word would make me blush.”

Female comics also warned each other about Russell Brand’s lewd behavior, with one saying it was “the worst-kept secret in comedy”.

The industry, dominated by men for decades, has been described as “an extremely difficult place to be a woman”.

Comedian Katherine Ryan told Louis Theroux last year that it was an “open secret” that a male comic was a stalker.

She described how she confronted the man, but he had “very good lawyers”.

Ms Ryan, 39, also started a guessing game last May on her Amazon Prime show Backstage with Katherine Ryan after discussing the presence of an abuser who worked in TV with fellow comedian Sarah Pascoe.

“I did a show with a guy who you and I believe is a stalker,” the Canadian star said.

He added: “It’s very messed up because I don’t have proof. I picked it up. I used to call him a hunter every day in front of him and in front of everyone.”

Ms Ryan and Ms Pascoe spent time at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in the late 2000s when Brand was there.

Ms. Ryan also appeared with the brand on a 2018 episode of the Comedy Central TV show Roast Battle.

The mail also tells of a separate incident during the filming of a comedy show where Brand was introduced to the stars and audience as a stalker, but bosses insisted it was cut and the room was removed. Everyone present had to sign an undertaking not to divulge the comments. ,

Comedian Daniel Sloss also claimed that women warned each other about Russell Brand and that his behavior was openly discussed in the industry.

He explained in Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary how there were “a number of stories with varying degrees of seriousness” about Brand that came from many different people in the comedy circuit.

Mr. Sloss said that while Brand often spoke publicly about him, many on the comedy circuit were aware of his allegedly abusive and forceful behavior.

She said female comedians also talked about her in WhatsApp groups, warning each other about which comedians to avoid.

“Women have been warning each other about Russell for years,” she said.

On Sunday, a 2013 interview with Brand’s ex-wife Katy Perry resurfaced where she hinted that she had become aware of some of Brand’s more indecent behavior.

Speaking to the magazine shortly after their split, she said she initially took “a lot of responsibility” for the breakup until she “found out the real truth”.

Ms Perry said she would keep this “truth”, which she “can’t necessarily reveal”, “for a rainy day”.
