Ronnie O’Sullivan has revealed he is hoping to gift his Masters trophy to a close friend.

And that plan could come back to haunt Ali Carter, as the two men are involved in a major feud following a recent confrontation at Alexandra Palace.

O’Sullivan recently defeated Carter in the final of the Masters, picking up his first win of the year in the process.

He has added a World Grand Prix to his collection after defeating Judd Trump in the final of that event earlier this month.

O’Sullivan previously revealed that despite all he has achieved in the sport, he does not care much about trophies.

And now, according to the Daily Express, he has announced his plans to give his Masters trophy to his first friend.

He said, “If I could keep it, I would send it back to China to one of my teammates and let him keep it at his club.”

“That’s what I do with most of my trophies now.”

Carter may have considered O’Sullivan’s plan insulting as he had recently lost the final at Alexandra Palace.

The 44-year-old was left disappointed after failing to win, although he insisted he was ‘getting closer’ to securing snooker’s biggest prizes.

Carter has never won the Masters, while his opponent has won the tournament seven times during his career.

And O’Sullivan’s delivery of the praise shows he is not too concerned with his latest achievement.

Rocket previously stated last year that he did not care about trophies and would rather give them away.

He said at the time: “I always give them away. My mate Paul had one, I gave one to a kid in the crowd.”

“I’m not really worried about the trophies. I’ve sold quite a few of them.

“I don’t want to have any memorabilia left when I’m 70 or 80. I’m preparing for death.

“Part of it is I don’t want any snooker stuff. Waistcoats, cues, it’s all going to go.”

Meanwhile, O’Sullivan’s feud with Carter continues.

The 48-year-old recently told his rival to ‘get his shit together’ after he was accused of spitting on the Ally Pally floor.

Carter hit back by saying that O’Sullivan was ‘not mentally well.’

And O’Sullivan’s girlfriend, Laila Rouass, has now chosen to reignite the controversy by telling Carter to ‘shut his mouth’.

“Ali Carter said four or five years ago that Ronnie didn’t have a chance to win another world championship. What did he do and what did he do? He went and won,” he said on Instagram.

“She didn’t age well, did Ali Carter?

“Now shut your mouth and be a good boy. Concentrate on your snooker.”

O’Sullivan next faces Julien Leclerc on Sunday (2pm).

After that, he will take some rest after enduring a frantic start to 2024 so far.
