Republic Day 2024: President Draupadi Murmu hoisted the national flag on the duty path in New Delhi on the occasion of the 75th Republic Day on Friday.

The solemn moment was accompanied by the singing of the national anthem and a 21-gun salute.

President Murmu, the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day celebrations, and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron were also accompanied by the President’s Bodyguard, popularly known as the ‘President’s Bodyguard’.
According to YearThe gun salute was presented by the ceremonial battery of the 871st Field Regiment (Shingo), former headquarters 36th Artillery Brigade. Lieutenant Colonel Vikas Kumar, SM, commands the Ceremonial Battery, and Subedar (AIG) Anup Singh serves as the Gun Position Officer. The 21 gun salute was executed using the indigenous gun system 105 mm Indian Field Gun on the duty path.

The 21-gun salute is the highest military honor given to the national flag on the line of duty. It involves synchronized activities, including the unfurling of the national flag, playing of the national anthem by the service band and the national salute by the President’s bodyguard.
The significance of Republic Day lies in the commemoration of January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force, formalizing the country’s status as a sovereign state after independence on August 15, 1947.
The inaugural session of the Constituent Assembly took place on 9 December 1946, while the last session took place on 26 November 1949. Dr. BR Ambedkar led the drafting committee responsible for drafting the Constitution.
On January 26, the nation celebrates a national holiday to honor the implementation of the Constitution, the date also marks the Indian National Congress’s declaration of Purna Swaraj, claiming complete independence from British rule.
