The Indian Embassy in France on Saturday informed that it is working for the welfare of 300 Indians stranded at Verti airport after their flight was stopped by French authorities in a suspected case of “human trafficking”. The embassy said its consular staff is deployed there. The airport and they are working towards a speedy resolution of the situation.

“Continue to work with the French government for the welfare and early resolution of the situation of the Indians currently at Verti airport, 150 km east of Paris. The embassy’s consular staff is stationed there. “Thanks to the French authorities for working on this during the long holiday weekend,” the Indian Embassy in France said in a post on Twitter.

French authorities on Friday stopped an Airbus A340-300 with 303 Indians on board after they received a tip-off that passengers traveling on the plane could be victims of human trafficking. The plane took off from the United Arab Emirates and landed at Verty Airport in France due to some technical reasons.

According to reports, the plane was headed for Nicaragua and was carrying 13 unaccompanied minors. Authorities are interrogating two people in this case and Legend Airlines has claimed that the flight crew has been released after questioning.

“The crew members have been questioned, the interrogation has ended and they are all free to move about. No one has been detained,” it said.

Earlier, the airline’s lawyer had denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the plane was chartered by a “trusted customer”. Legend Airlines did not disclose the name of the customer but said it was a non-European company.

According to reports, emergency services at Vatri airport made temporary sleeping arrangements for 303 stranded passengers, ensuring they had toilet and shower facilities apart from supplying food and hot beverages.

Regular visits by Indian General Consular officials as part of ongoing support to stranded persons were also noted.
