Eric ten Hag is reportedly involved with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent arrival at Manchester United.

A year after missing out on American businessman Todd Boehly’s move to Chelsea, the INEOS chief is close to buying a 25 percent stake in the Red Devils.

The Glazers had suggested they were open to a full sale last year.

But after Sheikh Jassim withdrew his offer, the family are ready to welcome Ratcliffe to Old Trafford.

Widespread reports have suggested the 70-year-old will take over playing control of the club once the deal is completed.

And according to the Daily Mail, it makes Ten Hag happy.

United have backed the Dutchman since bringing him in as a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer almost 18 months ago.

Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martínez, Casemiro and Antony were all signed last year.

And United then also went on to recruit Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hjolund, Sergio Reguilon and Sofiane Amrabat this summer.

However, Ten Hag has some reservations about United’s recruitment department.

He was said to be frustrated with the club’s changing budget, creating uncertainty over the Glazers’ handling of the situation.

Ten Hag were reportedly initially told they would have just £60million to spend on new faces this year, despite having been given so much support in 2022.

But United spent big on players like Onana and Hjolund after landing Mount from Chelsea.

Ten Hag hopes Ratcliffe can help United improve both on and off the field.

And the INEOS chief will be keen to make a success of the club, with Ratcliffe also eyeing a full takeover in the future.

United have spent a fortune since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

But his five most expensive contracts have been flops rather than hits.

Paul Pogba never lived up to expectations after returning from Juventus for a then world-record fee of £89m in 2016.

The jury is still out on Antony, who has faced tough and difficult times during his time in English football so far.

Harry Maguire has worked hard under Solskjaer and Ten Hag, arriving from Leicester in 2019 for a fee of £80m.

Romelu Lukaku lasted just two years at Old Trafford, before being sacked by Jose Mourinho from Everton in 2017.

And Jadon Sancho, United’s fifth-most expensive signing of all time, is currently left out of the first team.

Ratcliffe is set to keep Ten Hag as manager once the deal is completed.

The 53-year-old has made a poor start to the season, with United winning only four of their first eight Premier League games.

But Ratcliffe wants Ten Hag to succeed and the Dutchman’s position is not under threat right now.
