Karnataka News: Third incident of students cleaning toilet surface, minister’s assurance useless – Gudstory

The headmaster of a government school in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district was suspended on Thursday after a video of students cleaning toilets went viral on social media, according to a report. PTI,

The video showed some students of a government school cleaning and sanitizing toilets, leading to protests by parents.

This is the third such incident in the state in the month of December.

The latest incident took place on Saturday at a government school in Bhadravati taluk of Shivamogga district, where Class 6 students were allegedly asked to clean toilets. PTI The news has been given quoting officials.

When senior officials of the Karnataka Education Department spoke to the headmaster, he told them that the students were only asked to pour water and not clean the toilets.

“On Wednesday, I received a 10-second video on WhatsApp in which students were seen cleaning toilets. “I immediately directed the officials concerned to visit the school and conduct a detailed investigation,” a senior education department official was quoted as saying by PTI.

“The Block Education Officer has submitted a report, based on which I have initiated disciplinary action against the school headmaster. This is unacceptable and therefore, we have suspended Headmaster Shankarappa in connection with the incident that occurred in the school last week.”

Earlier this month, an incident was reported from Bengaluru where students of a government school in the state were allegedly asked to clean toilets. After the video of the incident went viral, the education department had suspended the school headmistress.

After the incident came to light, Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa had condemned it, calling it “shocking” and “condemnable”.

He had also directed the education department to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

The second such incident was reported from Kolar district where the principal and two staff members of a residential school were suspended on allegations that some students were made to clean a soak pit.
