X appears to have blocked searches for Taylor Swift as a response to a recent trend of posting graphic AI fake content of the world-famous recording artist on the site. This is because if you encounter a blocked search term and decide to put in the minimum effort to try something else, you will overcome it. For example, typing “Taylor AI Swift” or simply placing quotation marks around her name brought up results. Even adding another term to one of the search terms that appears to be blocked still returns results. Additionally, while posts may or may not be blocked from search, the media associated with them clearly are not – clicking on the media tab brings up lots of images.

Taylor Swift searches return nothing. Unless you make a slight change in your search.

Reports say Swift is considering legal action against sites hosting the images, which users said they resembled the Microsoft designer to create. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called deepfakes “dangerous and terrifying” in an interview nbc nightly news yesterday, and he said he believes AI companies need to “move faster” to put in place better guardrails.

Ax responded to our email asking if Swift’s name was being intentionally blocked with emailed auto-replies.
