Inadvertent movement of condition lever caused Nepal plane crash that killed 5 Indians: Report – Gudstory

The fatal air crash in January 2023 took the lives of all 72 people on board a Yeti Airlines flight, including five Indians.

On January 15, Yeti Airlines Flight 691, taking off from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, crashed into the gorge of the Seti River between the old airport and the new airport in the resort city of Pokhara.

There were 72 people on board the ATR-72 plane when it crashed, including four crew members, but rescue officials have so far recovered only 71 bodies, while the other missing passenger is presumed dead.

Earlier reports suggested that the Yeti airplane crashed just ’10 to 20 seconds’ before landing. Analysis of the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder revealed that the propellers of both engines had driven into the “wing in the base leg during descent”.

Preliminary reports released after the fatal crash showed that the Yeti Airlines flight lost thrust and went down after both engines went into the propeller wing position.

Additionally, the then newly opened Pokhara Airport in Nepal was also hit by fire new York Times Reports exposed construction quality and cost irregularities at Pokhara Airport, funded by Chinese state-owned firms.

According to the new York TimesThe project, managed by China Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) Engineering, a subsidiary of Sinomach, has faced criticism, with allegations of cost overruns and shoddy construction compromising the quality of the airport.
