On the occasion of Durga Puja, the Odisha government has announced 10 days holiday for schools from October 20. As per government order, all schools in Odisha will remain closed for 10 days till October 29 for the festivities.

Durga Puja will start on 20th October i.e. Shashthi and will end on 24th October, Dashami.

According to the notification issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Elementary Education on Friday, all district education officers have been asked to give instructions to school authorities regarding the puja holiday.

The state government has also declared October 14 as a holiday on the occasion of Mahalaya, marking the end of Pitru Paksha.

In separate news, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced Rs 5,300 Durga Puja bonus for civilian volunteers of West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police and Asha workers working under the Health Department.

Preparations for Durga Puja are in full swing mainly in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Odisha.

The Hindu festival Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsav or Sharadotsav, is an annual festival that honors the Hindu goddess Durga and celebrates her victory over Mahishasura.
