Delhi’s air quality improves, ‘poor’ AQI recorded after several days – Gudstory

Air quality in Delhi was recorded in the ‘poor’ category today as the AQI in the national capital stood at 284, according to Central Pollution Control Board data recorded at 8:00 am. This change from ‘very’ to ‘bad’ has come after several days.

In the list of top 10 most polluted cities across India, Delhi is at tenth position today. The air quality in Delhi is being experienced in the ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’ category for the last few weeks. However, improvement was seen after the rains which brought Delhi back to ‘very poor’ zone from ‘severe’ zone. Delhi’s air quality further improved due to light rain on December 3.

Air quality was recorded in ‘very poor’ and ‘poor’ category at 8:00 am at various places in Delhi. No place was recorded in the ‘severe’ category today. The worst air quality was recorded in Mundka where the AQI was 330.

Other places with relatively high pollution levels included RK Puram whose AQI was 318, Dwarka whose AQI was 317, Jahangirpuri whose AQI was 313, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium whose AQI was 311, Rohini whose AQI was 307, Wazirpur whose AQI was 303 and New Moti. Whose AQI was 301. Most other places recorded ‘poor’ air quality.

Places around the National Capital Region fared better than Delhi in terms of pollution levels, including Noida, which had an AQI of 209, Greater Noida, which had an AQI of 230, Ghaziabad, which had an AQI of 204, Faridabad, which had an AQI of 180 and Gurugram. The AQI was 236. The air quality was recorded as ‘poor’ at all these places except Faridabad, where the AQI was in the ‘satisfactory’ category.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 11.2 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was 25.4 degrees Celsius. The IMD has predicted that the sky will be mainly clear with light fog in the morning and similar weather will continue till December 9. IMD has also predicted no rain in the national capital till December 11.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had informed last week that Grap-3 has been lifted in the national capital, although the government is trying to ensure that Grap-1 and 2 are strictly implemented.
