The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is keeping an eye on the Arabian Sea as the first signs of a possible post-monsoon cyclonic storm have appeared.

IMD’s weather update on Monday said that a low pressure area is likely to develop over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea in the next 48 hours.

According to the formula adopted for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean region, if a tropical storm forms in the Indian Ocean, it will be called “intense”.

According to a report by PTI An IMD official was quoted as saying that a cyclonic circulation has been observed over the south-east Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep area. Due to which there is a possibility of formation of low pressure area in the same area.

At present, the chances of the system turning into a cyclonic storm are not particularly high.

“As of now, the chances of this system turning into a cyclonic storm are not very high. The models have not confirmed this yet. There is no consensus yet on model predictions. “We will have to wait for a few more days for a clear picture to emerge,” the official was quoted as saying. PTI,

October to December is one of the favorable periods for the development of cyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea due to warm sea temperatures.

In 2022, no tropical storms formed over the Arabian Sea during the post-monsoon season, while two tropical storms formed over the Bay of Bengal – Sitarang and Mandaus.

According to Skymet Weather, cyclones in the Arabian Sea have a history of uncertain tracks and timelines.

Once cyclones are over the central parts of the Arabian Sea, their preferred path is towards Somalia, Gulf of Aden, Yemen and Oman. Skymet said, however, on some occasions these cyclones change their course and move towards the coastline of Gujarat and Pakistan.
