Intense rainfall activity is predicted over South Peninsular India till December 18 with heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense rainfall activity over far south peninsular India till December 18. According to IMD, heavy rain has been predicted over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during the next two days. Tamil Nadu, where families are still struggling in the aftermath of Cyclone Michong, is set to see another round of heavy rains.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over south Tamil Nadu and Kerala during December 16-18 and over Lakshadweep on December 17 and 18.
Apart from this, very heavy rainfall is also predicted at isolated places over South Tamil Nadu on 16 and 17 December and over South Kerala on 17 December.
According to IMD Chennai, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts of Tamil Nadu today, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai. Virudhunagar, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai districts and Karaikal region of Tamil Nadu.
The weather department has predicted heavy rain at one or two places in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram districts on December 18. After which light to moderate rain has been predicted at a few places in South Tamil Nadu, one or two places in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal from 19-22 December.
In Kerala today, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert predicting very heavy rain at different places in four districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts have been placed under orange alert, the IMD said. According to IMD Kerala, there will be a storm warning with heavy rain in Kerala on December 18 also.
The weather office has also predicted isolated light rain/snow over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan Muzaffarabad on December 16 and 17.
Talking about fog, after a slight drop in the minimum temperature, there was fog in Delhi on Sunday morning. The temperature in the national capital was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am.
The IMD has also predicted dense fog over isolated parts of North Punjab and North Haryana during the morning hours of the next four days and over Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura on December 17 and 18, 2023.
