‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ marks 40 days of the most severe winter conditions in the region, with widespread cold wave and significant drop in temperatures. According to IMD, minimum temperatures are between 4-8 degrees Celsius in most areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, North Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh.

“Dense morning fog is very likely over isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next 4 days,” the release said.

The minimum temperature in eastern Uttar Pradesh, southern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar remains between 8-12°C. IMD further said that dense fog is seen in different areas of Punjab in the morning and cold wave is being experienced in different parts of Punjab.

The IMD had earlier predicted light rain warning for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next six days. “Light to moderate rainfall at one or two places is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region from December 21 to 26, 2023,” the release said.
