In view of the upcoming festivals around Christmas and New Year, the Excise Department of Uttar Pradesh has decided to keep liquor shops open till 11:00 pm across the state. The government order states that shops will remain open from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm on December 24 and December 31. The regular timings of liquor shops are 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, but the government has decided to extend the timings around festivals.

This announcement has come when the Uttar Pradesh administration is aiming to increase revenue from the sale of liquor. Recently, the excise department has made some changes in the liquor policy and allowed people to consume beer within 100 square feet of their shops.

“Beer shops will be given permits, allowing their owners to allow consumers to consume it, if they have 100 square feet of space near their shops. The police will not harass such people provided they behave decently in public,” said Nitin Agarwal, minister of state for excise and liquor prohibition in the UP government. India.com.

In order to promote the grain based industry segment in the liquor industry, the UP government has decided to introduce a new category, which will be known as Uttar Pradesh Manufactured Liquor (UPML) which will contain 36% alcohol-by-volume strength. .

“Two years ago, we introduced grain-based country liquor with 42 percent intensity, and now we are introducing another variety that can co-exist with a similar jaggery-based product in the 36 percent alcohol-by-volume segment. Will happen. , but the aim will be to promote grain-based industry,” said Nitin Agarwal.
