Tommy DeVito will start again at QB for the New York Giants, According to head coach Brian Daboll. Although Tyrod Taylor is close to returning from a rib injury, the undrafted rookie will once again be under center when the Big Blue takes on the Green Bay Packers in Monday Night Football.

“I thought Tommy had it,” Daboll said of DeVito, who has won two of his past three starts. “I went back and watched the whole tape and I thought he had two good games. Obviously there are things we can all work on. I think he’s earned the right to play.”

DeVito’s star has risen after becoming QB1. He threw for 697 yards and seven TDs, earning the respect and support of his teammates. Running back Saquon Barkley called the Don Bosco Prep graduate “Tommy Cutlets” and shouted “Jersey” in support of the Cedar Grove, N.J., resident, who still lives at home with his parents.

Giants players and fans alike joined DeVito’s celebration with the “finger wallet,” a nod to his Italian heritage. Hundreds came out to sign in November at Primo Hoagies in Wayne, New Jersey.

“I thought Tommy did a good job,” Daboll said. “He has improved in every game he has played. I think he has played well in the last two games. He made good decisions, was accurate with the football and earned the right to play.”

DeVito hit his first home run when The Giants defeated the Patriots for the first time in 36 years in New Jersey. The 25-year-old QB is no stranger to MetLife, having won a state title there during the Ironmen’s run.
