Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday that the farmers of the state have suffered huge losses. According to PTI report, there has been a loss of Rs 30,000 crore due to drought this year.

Karnataka Chief Minister said that due to drought conditions, crops in 42 lakh hectares in the state have been damaged and 216 out of 236 taluks have been declared drought affected.

“42 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged in the state. farmers have suffered losses 30,000 this year. As per National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) norms, we have sought Rs 4,860 crore from the central government and the central team has visited the drought-hit areas,” PTI reported Siddaramaiah saying at the inauguration of the historic Mysuru Dussehra festival.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the state government had earlier declared drought in 195 taluks of the state.

“Now, after the meeting, the Cabinet sub-committee has declared drought in 21 taluks. Overall, 216 taluks have been declared drought-hit.”

Siddaramaiah said his government will provide input subsidies to farmers for drinking water, fodder, water for cattle, employment and other relief measures. “The specialty of this year is that we are witnessing a green drought, where crops have grown but there has been no yield,” the Karnataka Chief Minister said.

\Based on another round of crop survey conducted over the past week and ground reality reports, the state government on Friday issued an official notification declaring 22 more taluks as drought-hit.

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said another memorandum will be submitted to the Central government on Monday seeking additional relief funds for the state. State has opportunity to seek additional drought relief The minister said, Rs 300-350 crore as per the guidelines of the central government.

Former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday warned the state government of agitation by farmers if four more districts – Haveri, Shiggaon, Hanagal and Byadgi – were not declared drought-hit by Monday.
