There is a holiday in SBI this weekend: SBI is closed today due to fourth Saturday holiday and will remain closed tomorrow also after regular Sunday holiday. SBI was closed on 26 January on the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day. Indian banks enjoyed a three-day weekend starting this Friday to commemorate the 75th Republic Day and will end on Sunday.

Private and PSU banks including SBI remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays of every month. The fifth Saturday, if any particular Saturday, is a working day for all banks. The list of SBI holidays this week is as follows:

SBI closed in Assam on 31 January (Wednesday)

SBI will remain closed in Assam on 31st January on the occasion of Me-Dum-Me-Phi. Mee-Dam-Mee-Phee is a state holiday in Assam as it is a festival to worship ancestors.

It is celebrated by the Ahom or Tai-Ahom ethnic community spread across the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It is an important festival in Ahom religion.

Banks will remain closed till 28 January

All banks are observing a long weekend from January 26 due to Republic Day being celebrated on Friday and fourth Saturday on the next day, January 27. Sunday is a holiday in all banks across the country.

How about February?

SBI closed on 2 February (Friday)

All SBI branches in Sikkim will remain closed on 2nd February on the occasion of Sonam Losar. Sonam Losar is a New Year festival of the Hyolmo and Tamang people of Nepal as well as the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India. It falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice which is usually Magha Shukla Pratipada based on the eastern lunar calendar.

SBI closed on 5th February (Monday)

All SBI branches in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed on February 5 on the occasion of Hazrat Ali Jayanti. Prophet Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law Hazrat Ali holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims around the world. He was known for his intelligence, bravery and devotion to Islam.

The apex body Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases the list of bank holidays. The list is based on various factors including national/state holidays, cultural or religious observances, operational requirements, government announcements and coordination with other banks. A total of 16 holidays, including 2nd, 4th Saturday, Sunday and other regional holidays, were allotted to banks in the month of January 2024.
