New Delhi: After facing setbacks in horizontal drilling of the tunnel, rescue operations resumed in full swing on the 16th day to rescue 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi, with all hopes to reach the trapped workers. Was on drilling.

Earlier on Monday, the auger machine was removed by cutting it with a plasma cutter.

“After clearing the 800 mm rescue pipe from all obstructions, including the stuck auger, a manual drift process will be implemented to clear the last few meters to reach the other side,” a government statement on the rescue operation said. ‘ Along with this, a flow tunnel will also be built. It is being built by a joint team of THDCL, Army, Coal India and NHIDCL using manual-semi mechanized method. Further, SJVNL’s machine for vertical rescue tunnel construction has started its work and has already drilled 30.8 meters or more than one-third. Distance to reach stranded workers.

THDC has also started construction of a rescue tunnel from the Barkot end, with six blastings already completed, resulting in a drift of 12 metres. Three blasts are planned daily. RVNL is transporting machinery for micro-tunneling through horizontal drilling to save labour.

Five government agencies have been brought in to consider all options to save workers. These include National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Satluj Hydropower Corporation (SJVNL), Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDC) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). One option each.
