Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner has urged trans athletes to be banned from competing in women’s sports.
The American athlete, who won the men’s decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal before the gender transition, warned that the integrity of the women’s sport was at stake.
This comes after transgender athlete Hailey Davidson controversially won the Florida Gold Tournament.
Calling for changes to the rules, Jenner wrote in a newspaper column today: “Transgender athlete Hailey Davidson must understand that golf is a game of integrity and withdraw from women’s competition.
“Then the Ladies Professional Golf Association must follow suit, taking advantage of this opportunity to reverse its grave mistake – and restore the spirit of one of the longest-running women’s professional sporting associations in the world. “
Writing for the Daily Mail the 74-year-old said: “I am a transgender man who took up the game of golf at the age of 50, playing amateurly, non-competitively, with men and women of all ages. I know for sure that there are physical differences between men and women that cannot be erased by modern medicine – especially after individuals go through male puberty.
“And Davidson, who began gender transition at age 20 and had gender reassignment surgery six years later, is stronger than rivals.”
In our GBN member survey, not a single person polled said they disagreed with Jenner.
Only one percent said they didn’t know, while 99 percent agreed that trans athletes should be banned from women’s sports.
