Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the public on the occasion of Mahalaya on Saturday.

PM Modi tweeted, “On this revered day of Mahalaya, we pray that Maa Durga blesses everyone’s life with strength, wisdom and prosperity. May this special occasion symbolize courage, harmony and prosperity. Shubho Mahalaya!”

Mahishasura Mardini’s early morning presentation, consisting of a series of shlokas and songs dedicated to Goddess Durga, was broadcast on All India Radio (AIR). PTI informed of.

Mahishasura Mardini was initially broadcast as a live program on All India Radio in the early 1930s. Since then, it has grown into a traditional Mahalaya morning tradition.

Mahalaya, which marks the beginning of Durga Puja festivities, has arrived. It is celebrated at the conclusion of Shraddha or Pitru Paksha, a 16-day period during which Hindus honor their ancestors. This year this important day is on 25th September.

Lakhs of people in West Bengal performed ‘Tarpan’, marking the beginning of the festive season with Durga Puja just six days away.

The day began with people paying homage to their ancestors on the banks of Hooghly river and other water bodies across the state.

On Mahalaya, sculptors usually paint the eyes of Goddess Durga in a ritual called ‘Chokhu Daan’.

Durga Puja is scheduled to begin on Shashthi on October 20 and will end on Dashami on October 24. Yet, in Kolkata, a few community puja pandals have been inaugurated in the last few days, drawing crowds eager to get a first glimpse of the artistic creations.
