An explosion at a plant of state refiner Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in Chennai on Wednesday killed one worker and injured another, two fire department officials told Reuters.
The explosion occurred while welding work was underway at an ethanol storage tank, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
He said that the reason for the incident is still not clear.
The IOC did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Without giving details, the sources said officials were at the premises and assessing the damage.
