Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has extended metro rail services till 12:20 am on Lines 2A and 7 connecting Andheri and Dahisar in north-west Mumbai due to Navratri festival. It is reported that this change from the current closing time of 10:30 pm will be effective from October 19 to 23. PTI,

Line 7 which is an elevated corridor along the Western Express Highway connects Andheri East to Dahisar and Gundivali. While Line 2A runs over New Link Road between Dahisar and Andheri West. These two lines are connected to each other.

Under this new arrangement, the last trains on these lines will depart at 12:20 am and reach their destinations at 1:33 am. This extension in operating hours will result in 14 more journeys being added to the schedule with a gap of 15 minutes between trains.

On October 13, MMRDA said, “The last trains on both lines will depart at 12:20 pm and reach their destinations at 1:33 pm. With this extension in timings, 14 more trips will be added to the schedule, subject to progress.” 15 minutes.”

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde decided to provide 267 journeys on weekdays and the Saturday and Sunday schedules will include 252 and 219 journeys respectively.

“The total number of journeys on weekdays will be 267, while for Saturday and Sunday the figures will be 252 and 219 respectively. This decision was taken by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for the convenience of passengers during Navratri,” it said.

Given the widespread ‘Garba’ programs and celebrations during Navratri, the demand for late night travel options has increased. As stated in the press release, CM Shinde said that this decision to increase the operating hours of the Metro will provide much-needed relief to the people.
