More than 25 people hospitalized after ammonia gas leak from Chennai fertilizer unit – Gudstory

Several people have been hospitalized after ammonia gas leaked from a fertilizer manufacturing unit in Ennore in north Chennai, official sources said on Wednesday. The incident took place on December 26 at around 11.45 pm.

According to a report published by the news agency, following a gas leak from the plant, an odor that caused discomfort spread throughout the neighborhood PTI.

Sources said more than 25 people in residential areas like Periya Kuppam around the manufacturing facility experienced uneasiness, nausea and fainting and were taken to nearby hospitals.

As soon as word spread about the gas leak, people came out of their homes in panic, gathered on the streets and sought help. At the same time, officials at the fertilizer unit ‘took steps to rectify the technical problem,’ the sources were quoted as saying. PTI.

Police personnel pacified the people by saying that experts were addressing the issue and requested them to return to their homes as ‘there is no problem’.

People protested after ammonia gas leak was detected in a sub-sea pipe in Ennore on Wednesday. DIG, Joint Commissioner Avadi, Vijayakumar said, “There is no gas (ammonia) leakage in Ennore now. People have returned home. Medical and police teams are present at the spot.”
