From November 1, you may have to pay higher prices for your favorite drink, liquor, in restaurants and bars in Maharashtra. The increase in the price of liquor in hotels, bars, lounges and clubs will be a result of the 5 per cent increase in value added tax (VAT) announced by the state government.

In a notification issued by the Finance Department, the VAT rate for permit room liquor services has been doubled to 10 per cent, The Times of India reported.

According to industry sources, increasing VAT on liquor may have some impact on customers and indirectly affect the law and order situation in the state. Expensive alcohol will encourage drinkers to resort to other affordable alternatives such as off-premise consumption. According to TOI report, with the increase in VAT, more people will prefer to drink alcohol on building rooftops, parks, beaches or parked vehicles.

Changes in consumer behavior may bring more challenges for administration. In another move, the government also plans to bring in a new excise policy that links pricing to the alcohol content of beverages and allow the sale of bottled liquor in bars and liquor rooms, reports Free Press Journal. Gives.

Till now no information has been received regarding the deadline for implementation of this excise policy. This decision is expected to reduce beer prices, but its main objective is to increase revenue.
