In a speech in the Rajya Sabha earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah cited former Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw to point out a ‘mistake’ of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru when Kashmir was being invaded by the Pakistanis. Was.

Shah had said in the Upper House on December 11, “I want to make reference to Sam Manekshaw (then Directorate of Military Operations). He had said at one place that when Pakistanis were attacking Kashmir, he was busy in discussion. (I don’t want to reveal the name of the person) Sam Manekshaw was present at the meeting in which Sardar Patel said to Nehru, “Do you want Kashmir or not?” Then it was decided to send the army.

Amit Shah questioned the “untimely” ceasefire order during the Pakistani offensive, especially when “our forces were winning”. “If there was no ceasefire at the right time, PoK would not have been there,” Shah said.

Shah said that at that time, “Indian forces were winning while Pakistanis were fleeing… (Indian officials) should have waited two more days and the entire Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would have come under the tricolor.”

He also questioned “Why was the case taken to the United Nations?” While addressing the members of Rajya Sabha, Shah quoted Nehru and said that Nehru himself has accepted his mistake.

Shah quoted Nehru as saying, “After the experience of the United Nations, I have come to the conclusion that no satisfactory result can be expected from there. I considered the ceasefire decision a good one, but we will deal with the matter thoroughly.” Couldn’t handle it.” , We should have given more thought to the ceasefire and taken it late. However, these are mistakes of the past.”

Shah said, “This quote is from Jawaharlal Nehru. He himself had accepted his mistake.”

Shah was speaking during the discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha on December 11.

During his address in the Upper House, the Home Minister reiterated that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is a part of the country. He said that 24 seats have been reserved in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

Shah said, “24 seats have been reserved in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. I am saying again that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is ours and no one can snatch it from us.”

He added, “There is a question of perspective in the world, there is a question of even an inch of land in the country, our perspective will remain tense, we cannot change our heart. No one has the right to give away a section of our land to show off. their big heart.”
