Lewis Hamilton says F1 has ‘all white owners’ and believes more diversity is needed in the sport.
Earlier in October this year, the FIA announced that Andretti Global had met its entry requirements and would enter the third and next stage of the process.
Andretti Global has been a controversial topic since his freshman involvement in the sport.
And Hamilton has now spoken out on the matter, admitting it will generate ‘excitement’, while calling on F1 to increase diversity.

“First of all, it wasn’t that I support Andretti,” the 38-year-old said.
“I think from a driver perspective, it’s exciting to potentially see more cars.
“The idea of an 11th team.
“We have over 2000 people in our team, so it’s a huge amount of jobs.
“But we have to ensure that the norms, which are quite strict, are respected.
“I think we really need to revise the criteria and make sure there’s an opportunity for real impact, to really make sure a new team needs to be diverse.
“Maybe create an opportunity for a female driver to come in.
“Right now, all the owners are white and there is a real lack of diversity from top to bottom. It’s all male, and it needs to change.”
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with GQ magazine, Hamilton shed light on her quirky fashion sense.
The Stevenage-born racer often wears clothes you won’t find in your average shop.
And Hamilton is glad that reactions to her fashion choices have changed over the years.
“Some of the crossovers that I’ve been able to do have started to bring in new audiences,” he said.
“In general everyone has started to be more and more open-minded and no one comments on what I wear anymore. “It’s just the same, that’s what Lewis does. But in the beginning, gosh, people definitely criticized. ,[Formula One] It was an environment where you couldn’t really be yourself. Now you’re starting to see people really blossom, which is really nice.
He further added, “A lot of time goes into what I wear and how I look.
“When I first came in wearing a dress, one of the bosses, I remember looking me up and down and evaluating what I was wearing – and feeling really small.
“I felt like I had to conform to something I was uncomfortable with, and I know a lot of people are experiencing that.
“So hopefully what I do shows people that be courageous and be brave and be you.
“And if you don’t fit into that space, it’s not for you.
“It’s an easy thing to say, but I don’t think there’s a job I would do if I didn’t feel like I fit in, so I just know it’s not for me.”
Hamilton also revealed he is happy to pursue ‘other things’ apart from F1 glory.

He said, “As a kid I wanted to be recognized as one of the best drivers and I think that was really short-sighted.”
“When I was young, I only thought about racing.
“All my focus was on getting good at that one thing.
“I didn’t have time to think, OK, I’m going to do all these other things too.”
