Karnataka Police has arrested eight people and launched a search for eight others for allegedly attacking a 42-year-old Dalit woman in Belagavi district. On December 11, the woman was assaulted, paraded naked and tied to an electric pole in Vantamuri village because her son had eloped with a girl who was engaged to someone else. As the police are investigating the matter, politics is also heating up and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed a 5-member fact-finding team in connection with the incident.

“It is unfortunate that this happened. A boy of about 24 years old fell in love with another girl from the same village and the same community. They had eloped together and in retaliation, the girl’s parents destroyed the boy’s house. They did it and took it with them forcefully.” “The boy’s mother took off her clothes and tied him to an electric pole,” Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara told ANI.

“Immediately, our police went and rescued (the woman). She was brought to the hospital. We have registered a case and we have already arrested around seven people. Further investigation is underway. We are also trying to find out Trying to find where this boy is and the girls have run away,” Parameshwara said.

The matter also came up for discussion in the state assembly where the Home Minister confirmed strict action against the accused. G Parameshwara said, “On learning about the incident, the police immediately reached the spot, rescued the woman and took her to the hospital. Also, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case and necessary legal action is being taken against them.” ” Said in the assembly.

BJP formed fact finding team

BJP national president JP Nadda described the incident as ‘shameful’ and said it is a regular affair after the Congress comes to power in Karnataka in May 2023. After this, Nadda formed a 5-member fact-finding team with women MPs like Aparajita Sarangi, Sunita Duggal. Locket Chatterjee, Ranjita Koli and Asha Lakra.

BJP MPs from Karnataka also protested against the incident in the Parliament complex and demanded strict action from the Congress government of Karnataka.

“The law and order situation in Karnataka has completely collapsed. A Scheduled Caste woman was stripped naked and taken out in a procession, tied to an electric pole and beaten without any reason…Karnataka’s The Congress government does not give protection to SC, ST women,” BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda told PTI.

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra said that they will hold a statewide protest against this incident on December 16.
