External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar drew a distinction between the concerns raised by the US and Canada with India over an alleged plot to kill Khalistani separatists on their soil. “…the two issues are not necessarily the same,” he said on Sunday.

“When they raised that issue, the Americans told us some specific things. What happens from time to time in international relations is that such challenges can arise. So we told Canadians very honestly, that look at this you But it depends, I mean yours, whether you want us to take it forward, look into it further or not, like it or not,” Jaishankar said at an event in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Not just Canada, he said, “If any country has any concern and gives us some input or some basis for that concern, we are always ready to consider that.” That’s what countries do.”

Meanwhile, in September, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly accused the Indian government of involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India rejected the allegation as “absurd”.

Jaishankar had said in early December that India had formed an investigation committee to look into the information received from the US in the matter as it concerns national security.

However, he told the Rajya Sabha that Canada’s allegations of possible involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the Khalistani extremist would not be treated “with any equitability” as no specific evidence or inputs were provided to India by Ottawa, PTI reports. According to.

“As far as the US is concerned, there were some inputs given to us as part of our security cooperation with the United States. Those inputs were of concern to us because they related to the nexus of organized crime, trafficking and other matters. Were related.” ” He said.

Asked why there was no due diligence by the Canadian government regarding the allegations made, Jaishankar said: “As far as Canada is concerned, we were not provided with any specific evidence or information. So The question of equitable treatment of two countries, one of which has provided inputs and the other of which has not, does not arise.”

According to Bloomberg, sources said Canadian officials had shared evidence, including communications and phone numbers, with New Delhi before Trudeau made the allegations public.
