Vishwa Hindu Parishad on January 27 claimed that the Archaeological Survey of India report has ‘reconfirmed’ that the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi was built after demolishing a ‘grand temple’ at that site, the news agency reported. I went. PTI.

The VHP also demanded that the structure be declared ‘a Hindu temple’ and handed over to the community. It demanded that Hindus be allowed to perform ‘seva puja’ of the ‘Shivalinga’ found in the ‘so-called Vazukhana area’ at the disputed site.

VHP working president Alok Kumar said, “The evidence and findings collected by the ASI prove that the religious character of this place of worship was in existence on August 15, 1947 and at present it is a Hindu temple.” a statement.

He also demanded, “Thus, as per Section 4 of the Places of Worship Act, 1991 also, the structure should be declared a Hindu temple.”

The VHP called on the Intezamia Committee that manages the mosque to agree to “respectfully shift the Gyanvapi Mosque to some other suitable place” and hand over the original site of Kashi Vishwanath to the Hindu society.

Kumar said, “VHP believes that this noble action will be an important step towards building cordial relations between the two major communities of India.”

The Hindu body’s demands came two days after the ASI survey report on the Gyanvapi mosque complex was made public. The lawyer representing the Hindu litigants had claimed that the mosque was built after demolishing a pre-existing temple.

Kumar said, “Hand over the Gyanvapi structure to the Hindus.” The evidence collected by the ASI “confirms that the mosque was constructed after demolishing a grand temple”, he said.

He further claimed that a part of the temple structure, particularly the western wall, is what remains of a Hindu temple.

Furthermore, the ASI report also proves that parts of the pre-existing temple, including pillars and pillars, were reused with modifications to extend the span of the mosque and construct the ‘sahan’.

“The Shivalinga present in what was called ‘Vazukhana’ leaves no doubt that the structure does not have the character of a mosque. The discovery of names including Janardana, Rudra and Umeshvara in the inscriptions found in the structure tells the story of it being a temple. ,” Kumar claimed.
