In a breathtaking video shared by ANI, the picturesque town of Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir is covered in a pristine layer of snow, turning the region into a mesmerizing winter wonderland. As the first snowfall of the season occurred, the scenic beauty of Gulmarg reached new heights, allowing tourists and locals to enjoy the snowy attractions.
Officials told PTI that some higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday, while the plains received rain.
Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius on Friday night, which was 3.5 degrees Celsius higher than the previous night’s minus 1.3 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, while the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.8 degrees. The minimum temperature was minus 3.8 degrees Celsius in Qazigund, minus 3.6 degrees Celsius in Kokernag town and minus 1.0 degrees Celsius in Kupwara.
According to officials, a weak western disturbance is going to affect Jammu and Kashmir between Saturday and Sunday.
A weak western disturbance hit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday afternoon, according to a PTI report, adding that its impact led to light to moderate snowfall in some areas in the higher reaches of the valley.
According to reports, officials said the ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded about six inches of fresh snowfall.
He said that snowfall was also seen at Sonamarg tourist spot and Zojila axis.
Meanwhile, rain lashed the plains of the valley and was continuing till last reports came in, officials said.
He said that the western disturbance is going to affect Jammu and Kashmir by Sunday morning. Due to its impact, there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at some places, especially in the higher reaches.
The Meteorological Department said that due to a weak western disturbance, the minimum temperature will improve by Sunday, after which the night temperature is likely to drop again by one to three degrees.
