The BJP’s Delhi unit on Saturday demanded the resignation of Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered a CBI probe into the quality of medicines supplied to Delhi hospitals. In his defence, Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said he had already raised issues of quality of medicines in Delhi hospitals and pointed out the negligence of an official in monitoring medicine quality.

“I cannot test the drugs myself, I can give instructions and I have done so, I have said that an officer is not doing his job properly and action should be taken against him but the Center is not ready to do so. Is.” Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

Earlier today, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered a CBI probe into medicines “not of standard quality” being supplied to Delhi hospitals.

LG has also written a letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar directing him to investigate. “To say the least, I am distressed by the fact that lakhs of helpless people and patients are being given fake medicines which have failed the quality standard tests,” the LG letter said.

“These medicines, procured by the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) under Delhi Health Services (DHS), were supplied to Delhi government hospitals and may have also been supplied to mohalla clinics… This failed and are not up to the standard of quality,” the letter mentioned.

Why is the accused officer not removed?

The minister attacked the Lieutenant Governor and said that he has already written a letter to the LG demanding an investigation into the matter. “It has been a month and I have written a letter to the LG but he is not interested in conducting an inquiry,” he said.

Saurabh Bhardwaj also questioned why the accused officer still remained in his post and urged his removal from the health department. “If wrong medicines are coming and people’s lives are in danger, then why is that person still in his seat? He should have been removed by now,” the minister underlined.

The Health Minister’s office also highlighted the instructions issued to the Health Secretary in March, seeking audit of the procured medicines and action taken report. It mentioned that the ministry did not receive any response from the Health Secretary.
