Fast bowler Darcy Brown has been ruled out of the rest of the ODI series against the West Indies with a hamstring injury which could also leave her in doubt for a WBBL start.

Brown left the field after three overs on day one in Brisbane, where she got key with Stafanie Taylor, with tightness in her left hamstring. She had previously produced a match-winning 3 for 20 in the crucial T20I.

“Brown will undergo further evaluation in the coming days and an update on her availability will be provided in due course,” the CA statement said.

Tasmania all-rounder Heather Graham has been called up to the squad for the two matches in Melbourne that conclude the West Indies tour. They arrive on Wednesday after playing against ACT in the WNCL.

Australia may consider changing the balance of their attack in Brown’s absence by recalling Jess Jonassen who missed the first ODI after being left out of the T20I final.

With Kim Garth, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland and Tahlia McGrath, there are plenty of bowling options in the side. Ellyse Perry previously said she might not be able to bowl in the WBBL after injuring her knee in Ireland, and now her return to the ball could extend even further.

“the beginning [of the WBBL] “I’ll probably push it, but hopefully it won’t be too far into the season,” Perry said. “I really enjoyed working with Scott Prestwidge, our bowling coach.

“We’ve done some really great things in England in the nets and it was kind of a shame we had to cut that short over the last couple of months. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the summer and I hope I am too.” He is able to contribute with the ball.”

The defending WBBL champions Adelaide Strikers will be closely monitoring Brown’s fitness with the tournament kicking off on October 21 against the Melbourne Stars.

Australia leads the ODI series 1-0 after bowling out West Indies for 83 at the Allan Border Field.
