Cyclone Tej update: IMD says storm in Tamil Nadu, dry weather expected in Gujarat – Gudstory

As reported PTIThe IMD had earlier reported that the low pressure area over the south-east and south-west Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression and is forecast to strengthen into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 21.

Following the tradition of naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean region, this specific storm is set to be named ‘Tej’.

According to the IMD, the forecast shows that the storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday and move towards the southern coastal areas of Oman and adjoining areas of Yemen. Nevertheless, it is important to note that cyclones can sometimes change their trajectories.

“It is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the evening of October 22 and move towards south Oman and Yemen coast,” said Manorama Mohanty, director of the Meteorological Center in Ahmedabad.

“Since the cyclone will move west-northwest, it will not have any impact on Gujarat (which is located in the east). The weather will remain dry in Gujarat for the next seven days,” he said. PTI,

State Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey has indicated that there is no immediate danger as the storm is currently moving towards Gujarat.

It is noteworthy that Cyclone Biparjoy, which emerged from the Arabian Sea in June, had caused a lot of damage in parts of Kutch and Saurashtra in Gujarat. Initially it was moving towards west, but later it changed its course and made landfall in Kutch.

According to private forecasting agency Skymet Weather, the consensus among most weather models shows that the storm is directed towards the coastal areas of Yemen and Oman.

A cyclonic storm is defined by its maximum sustained wind speed, which falls within the range of 62–88 km per hour. On the other hand, when the maximum sustained wind speed reaches 89–117 kmph, it is classified as a severe cyclonic storm.

Further, the IMD has reported that a low pressure area located over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal (BoB) is likely to strengthen and develop into a depression over the west-central BoB by around October 22. hopefully.

Rain is expected in some parts of Tamil Nadu. “There will be moderate rain and thundershowers over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts,” the Tamil Nadu weather department said on Friday.
