Channel 4’s Bake Off bosses have been urged to make a major change to its format after baker Tasha fell ill.

Tasha and her fellow amateur bakers were tackling Chocolate Week in the tent, but as if the difficult baking challenges weren’t enough, complaints began to arise about how hot the temperature was inside the tent.

Tasha, 27, who is the Channel 4 show’s first deaf contestant and is accompanied by BSL interpreter Daryl, appeared to be feeling the heat more than anyone in the latest episode.

Tasha had managed to make it through the signature challenge for the week, albeit with some difficulty as she fell short of Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith’s expectations.

But as the challenges continued, she began to panic, telling the Channel 4 crew: “It’s quite hot, I need some air.”

Tasha was taken outside the tent where medical staff cared for her as she admitted that she had suffered a migraine the night before and that the heat inside the tent had worsened her health problems.

The Bake Off star was advised to go home and sit out the rest of Chocolate Week, meaning she would return during the following week’s show.

However, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond will now have to announce the elimination of two bakers next week as all contestants have retained their places in the tent following Tasha’s withdrawal.

It read, “Health first. Always.” “We can confirm that Tasha has had to withdraw from Chocolate Week on Bake Off due to medical reasons and will return for next week’s show.

“We can’t wait to see him back in the tent and feeling better. #GBBO,” the tweet was accompanied by a love heart emoji.

While many Bake Off fans wished Tasha a speedy recovery, others expressed their disappointment with Channel 4 over the way the show was structured.

The show has already made several changes this series, including Alison Hammond joining as presenter in the controversial decision to drop the nationally-themed episodes.

“I guess the only thing that’s okay is that Chocolate Week is always the hottest day of the year,” one fan fumed in response. “Given how much hot weather we had this year, it seems that manufacturers look at the forecast and save the chocolate finals or finals for the hottest weeks.”

Another called for change: “They film in extremely hot conditions – maybe a little rethinking is on the cards.”

And a third echoed: “After years of heating up in a tent perhaps daft growers could invest in aircon?”

Meanwhile, a fourth shared his well wishes: “Bless her sweet heart – she will be missed on tonight’s show. Hope she feels better soon.”

And it marks the fifth blow to the criticism Tasha has faced as she advances to the next week without completing all the challenge requirements.

He argued: “I think those who are overly critical of Tasha having migraines and dizziness should remember that she has a hot metal device on the side of her head that helps her hear #GBBO. She is not making any excuses.

“She’s deaf and her head is over the moon and hot,” he said, before another added: “No matter, people will complain about the result this week.

“If Tasha goes home because the challenge is for her, it would be unfair. If she stays, it would be unfair to everyone who has accomplished everything. No win scenario. #GBBO.” (Thus)
