Apple has put a temporary hold on the Apple Watch ban that went into effect on Tuesday. A federal appeals court today ordered a stay on import and sales restrictions after Apple requested they be halted at least until U.S. Customs can determine whether the products being used in the Apple Watch The changes would be enough to avoid the patent dispute that led to the ban. , The Customs Department is expected to issue its decision on January 12.

The court order means that Apple can resume sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 for the time being. Both watches were removed from its website last week and from store shelves this week due to the ban being implemented. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether sales would resume.

Apple was banned from selling and importing both watches due to a patent dispute with medical device manufacturer Massimo. The US International Trade Commission found that Apple infringed Masimo patents and ordered a US sales ban as a result. While this is in place, other retailers can continue selling through their existing Apple Watch stock, but Apple is banned from selling its own watches or bringing new watches into the country.

The appeals court is now considering a longer-term stay on the import and sales ban. Apple requested that the ban be put on hold until the appeals court renders a full ruling on the patent infringement case. A decision on this cannot be taken for at least a few more weeks.
