Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former Indian President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary and praised his ‘incomparable contribution to nation building’.

Born on October 15, 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was from an ordinary background. In his early childhood. In his early youth he also sold newspapers. Inspired by his passion for aerospace, he studied aeronautical engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology. Overcoming the challenges, he became a legendary figure in the field of rocket and missile technology, and inspired millions of people with his life story.

He also aspired to be able to fly, to handle a rocket and he also mentioned this in his memoir, My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions – “For years I hoped to be able to fly, to handle a machine. As it rose higher and higher. The stratosphere was my fondest dream.”

But that remained a dream as the late president came ninth out of 25 candidates. Unfortunately, only eight slots were available.

From being called the Missile Man of India for his work as an aerospace scientist to his dedication to his students as a teacher, Kalam achieved many achievements.

Acknowledging his contribution, PM Modi said, hearty tribute to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, loved by the people for his humble behavior and extraordinary scientific talent, on his birth anniversary. His incomparable contribution in nation building will always be remembered with reverence.

World Students Day on 15 October remembers the contributions of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to education and research. Despite some claims of UN involvement, it is mainly celebrated in India.
