Anthony Joshua has insisted that Francis Ngannou’s defeat of Tyson Fury gives him even more confidence in coming out on top in an all-British clash.

Fury and Joshua’s careers have been intrinsically linked for a decade now and the British pair have dominated the heavyweight landscape in that time.

Joshua is looking to rebuild his career after losing two consecutive fights to Oleksandr Usyk and will be hoping to make it three wins when he faces Otto Wallin in 2023.

But even while trying to keep the focus on this weekend’s fight, Joshua indicated that he has his sights firmly set on fighting Fury in the near future.

In an interview on Sky Sports, Joshua was asked about Fury’s recent encounter with UFC icon Ngannou, which ended in a split decision after the ‘Gypsy King’ lost.

And that’s how Ngannou managed to send Fury to the canvas, giving Joshua the desire to test himself against the WBC heavyweight champion.

“Trust me, you know what I’m saying. You know what I’m saying,” Joshua said with a big smile, spreading his arms.

“You know what’s happening, I’ve seen it. I know.

“Imagine what I would do.

” But Joshua didn’t want to think any more about an all-British heavyweight blockbuster at the moment, interrupting himself and saying: “Otto Wallin – that’s our focus. So I’m going to end it here.

“That’s my main focus. Otto Wallin. He gave that guy, Tyson Fury, a good run for his money, he’s a great fighter, respect to him. I’m giving him the ultimate respect, even though he doesn’t deserve it But I’m giving it to him in my mind.

“Because I want to be the best version of myself and be willing to put myself at the level I need to be to be victorious.”
