Amanda Abbington shared a touching post on Instagram over the weekend following her decision to withdraw from Saturday’s competition.

Abbington, 49, did not reveal the exact reasons why she would be missing from the line-up on Saturday evening, instead reposting an image from an account focused on mental well-being just hours before the live show.

The post featured a photo of late comedian Robin Williams with the quote: “People don’t fake depression…they pretend to be okay. Remember this. Be kind.”

Abbington also liked the post on her Instagram account before sharing it on her Stories.

Fans rushed to social media to wish Abbington well after It Takes Two host Janet Manrara first revealed the news of his departure from Friday’s show.

“We have some breaking news,” Manrara told It Takes Two viewers. “Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

He added, “Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all is well, Amanda and Giovanni will be back next week.”

Manrara ended the kiss by saying: “Amanda, we hope you get well soon my love! Sending you all the best.”

And Strictly hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly reiterated the BBC’s stance and Abbington’s withdrawal within the first few minutes of this weekend’s Strictly.

“Now as you may have noticed Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the line-up,” Winkleman said once all the contestants were introduced to the cheering crowd.

Cady and Karen Hauer faced Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima in the dance-off on Sunday evening and finished bottom of the leaderboard.

In an unexpected turn of events, McDermott retained his place in the competition after the judges’ votes, according to experts’ analysis before the show.

The judges voted unanimously to save McDermott after facing the second dance-off of the series – having previously sent off week two casualty Nikita Kanda.

After being saved by the judges once again, McDermott broke her silence and wrote an emotional and lengthy statement on Instagram: “Being involved in the dance off for the second time was definitely not the easiest moment of our Strictly journey so far.

“I think I let those nerves get the better of me during my performance, and I knew I could have done better. When I got off the dance floor I definitely felt like I let myself down.” Have done it, because I knew I could overcome those jelly legs a little bit more, both physically and mentally!

“But… the main thing is that we are very grateful to the judges for saving us. I am not ready for this journey to end, and the thought of leaving last night breaks my heart.

“I made a promise to myself and to Graz that this week I was going to work on controlling those nerves, and not let them get in the way of performing my best!

“This week we will come back stronger than ever and I am ready to step out of my comfort zone to prove that I can take on that challenge, turn a negative into a positive,” comments the judges. I can learn from and stay strong, even through the moments that seem the hardest.

“Dance is my life right now, and I really don’t want that to change anytime soon. Now is the time to work even harder and believe in myself a little more. Thank you to my partner for always believing in me.” Even in those moments when I doubt myself!!

“And the cool thing is that we got to do the angel lift again, which is a win because we worked really hard to make it better and we really wanted to be able to do it again.” (Thus)
