Showing a significant progress towards gender inclusivity in the country’s armed forces, women officers marched on the duty path in Delhi on the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day.

A contingent of 144 personnel were all women soldiers, with 60 from the Army and the rest from the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. The contingents of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) also included only women personnel.

Republic Day Parade 2024: Women’s contingent of Delhi Police
For the first time in history, an all-women contingent of Delhi Police marched on the duty path on Republic Day.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta K Sugathan led the all-women contingent of Delhi Police on Friday. Sugathan had also led male marching contingents in 2023, marking the first time a woman officer led male troops.

The Delhi Police contingent included one woman gazetted officer, three women sub-inspectors, 44 women head-constables and 100 women constables, all clad in red ‘safa’.
The all-women pipe band of Delhi Police also participated in the march, led by Band Master Sub Inspector Ruyangunuo Kense.

This year, the Delhi Police Brass and Pipe Band comprised four women sub-inspectors and 81 women constables. The band played “Delhi Police Song”.
Republic Day Parade 2024: Armed Forces Medical Services Mahila Contingent
The Armed Forces Medical Services was headed by Major Srishti Khullar. The all-women contingent also included Captain Amba Samant from the Army Dental Corps, Surgeon Lieutenant Kanchana from the Indian Navy and Flight Lieutenant Divya Priya from the Indian Air Force, who served as squadron officers.
