It is claimed that a letter sent to the school informed them that it will be on administrative probation for the entire calendar year.

The student-athlete is declared ineligible to represent any member school for a period of one year from the date of the finding [21 November],

Responding to the development, Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. wrote: “Thank you [DeSantis]Florida passed a law to protect girls’ sports and we will not tolerate any school that violates this law.

“We appreciate the swift action taken by the FHSAA to ensure serious consequences for this illegal behavior.”

This fine reflects each of the 33 volleyball competitions in which the trans athlete participated during the past two seasons.

The school has been fined £399 for each match.

As part of the punishment, representatives will also be required to attend FHSAA compliance seminars for the next two years.

They will also be required to host an ‘Eligibility’ and ‘Compliance’ workshop based on their learning in 2014.

Monarch High School is able to appeal the decision within 10 days.

Broward County Public Schools offices say the investigation is ‘ongoing’.

Broward Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata reportedly received complaints about a trans student competing on the girls’ volleyball team before Thanksgiving last month.

Following the investigation, the school principal and other staff members were reassigned – leading to one student walking out of the school.
