Accusing TMC MP Derek O’Brien of violating the chair’s instructions and disrupting the House proceedings, the Chairman allowed House leader Piyush Goyal to move a motion in this regard.

The motion was adopted by voice vote and the Speaker announced that O’Brien was suspended from the House for the remainder of the session.

Putting the motion for voting, the Speaker said that it has been passed by voice vote.

The Chairman announced, “The motion has been accepted. Member Derek O’Brien is suspended for the remainder of the session.” Opposition members were shouting “No” in unison.

They also raised slogans like “tanashahi nahin chalegi” (dictatorship will not be tolerated) and “Derek ka suspension nahin sahenge” (will not tolerate suspension).

Derek O’Brien was demanding a discussion on the issue of breach in the security of Parliament.
