The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 15 approved the proposal to declare Surat airport as an international airport, an official release said.

“This strategic move promises to unleash unprecedented economic potential, making Surat a major player in the international aviation landscape and ushering in a new era of prosperity in the region,” an official release said.

According to the government, Surat airport will not only become a gateway for international passengers but will also facilitate seamless export-import operations for the thriving diamond and textile industries.

The release said, “Granting international status to Surat Airport is paramount to enhance economic growth, attract foreign investment and strengthen diplomatic relations. With the increase in passenger traffic and cargo handling, the international designation of the airport “Will provide a significant boost to regional development.” ,

Changing name of Surat airport:

According to times of IndiaSurat Airport may be named after former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who was from Valsad and was elected from the Surat Lok Sabha constituency from 1957 to 1980.

Earlier in 2014, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had written a letter to PM Modi demanding that Surat Airport be named after Morarji. Later in 2020, MP Subramanian Swamy had also written a similar letter to PM Modi demanding to name the Surat airport after Moraji Desai.

Air India International Flights:

in the other times of India Air India Express is set to launch daily Dubai flight from Surat, reports said.

As per the details, the flight is scheduled to take off early in the morning and reach around 9 am. Whereas it will return by 1 pm. The report states that bookings for this exciting new flight will begin from December 14, although Surat Airport Director Rupesh Kumar has expressed ignorance about the issue. news18,
