Novak Djokovic has expressed his displeasure at the ATP ignoring his long-term coach Goran Ivanisevic despite the pair’s achievements in 2023.

Djokovic’s claim to being considered the greatest of all time was further boosted this year as he finished another season as world No. 1 with countless records.

Ivanisevic has been a constant presence with his team and Djokovic regularly credits the 2001 Wimbledon champion for helping his game.

But despite Ivanisevic’s role in Djokovic’s incredible career, he was never awarded the Coach of the Year award by the ATP.

And they were snubbed again for 2023, with Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi both given the award for their work with Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic congratulated the experienced coaches on social media.

Djokovic first wrote, Congratulations to Darren and Simon on a great season with Janik.

But while the Serbian was happy to coach his ATP rival, he was clearly upset that Ivanisevic was overlooked.

Djokovic won three of the four majors – reaching the final in the second – and broke all kinds of records in another memorable year for the tennis icon.

He added: “Goran, I think we need to win the 4/4 Slam so you can maybe (just maybe) be considered coach of the year.

“WINNER WINNER #1, 3GS & WTF [World Tour Finals] And making history in this game is not enough, my dear coach.”

Djokovic’s third Grand Slam title of the year at Flushing Meadows took him equal to Margaret Court’s current all-time record.

He became the oldest person to win a US Open singles title at the age of 36, with Ivanisevic praising it as one of the greatest achievements in the entire sport.

Ivanisevic said of Djokovic, “He’s a talented guy. He’s kind of unique. There’s not a lot of people who look like him in terms of the game in this world.”

“This is one of the greatest achievements in the history of the game. We’re not talking about tennis. We’re talking sports in general.

“He is a winner. He is the person who is motivating himself.

‘He was blessed to have people like Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer who came before him and pushed each other.’

“But he is a born winner. When you tell him he can’t do something, it’s even worse.

“Then he’ll show you he can do it. That’s no excuse.

“He always tries to find a way to win, how to fight, even when he’s not feeling well, injured, not injured.”
