New ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ trailer highlights Percy and Sally’s relationship
This trailer highlights Percy’s relationship with Sally, which is important as she is his driving force in the first book. Beginning with a young Percy visiting the museum with his mother, the trailer explains the source of Percy’s name: the Greek hero Perseus. Sally says that he was more than a hero because he found a way to a happy ending, a hope that young Percy, who does not yet know the truth, will hold on to during his search. As Sally speaks, some of the dangerous experiences awaiting Percy appear on the screen, revealing what obstacles Percy must face before he can be as happy as his namesake.
As the trailer continues, Percy and Sally share several scenes. She tells her confused son that all of his stories are true, a key moment for the character that helps the audience understand the series. Sally’s voice tells Percy that she is a Half-Blood, and the screen shows Sally, Percy, and Grover driving fast down a dark road with a growling Minotaur chasing them. Another clip of the Minotaur fight shows a heartfelt goodbye between mother and son as he refuses to leave her behind, and she tells him to “brave the storm”. Percy can also be seen facing the Minotaur face to face. Although the Minotaur battle is important, it’s only the beginning of Percy’s journey, and the trailer shows that.
The beginning of the book is seen in the ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ trailer
Before going to Camp Half-Blood, Percy must discover who he is, which happens during a school field trip in the books. The trailer covers the same journey, with Grover, the rogue, and Nancy Bobofit (olivia morton), and thank you very much for the books. Percy sees a black pegasus (Blackjack?) on a rooftop, and things only get stranger, as Percy’s description in the trailer suggests. Mr. Brunner, whom fans will recognize as Chiron the Centaur, appears in his wheelchair that hides his horse’s body. He encourages Percy and gives him a pen, which vibrates as if it were Riptide, Percy’s easily hidden sword. This is another piece that should come at the beginning of Percy’s story, because it sets up everything else, but it’s very important to get it right.
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Trailer Introduces Camp Half-Blood
Yet the most notable location in the Percy Jackson story is Camp Half-Blood, the only safe place for gods to live. The camp plays host to any demigod who can reach its magical boundaries and is filled with children. The trailer shows a picturesque view of a cabin for each of the Olympian gods. At the camp, Percy meets several characters featured in the trailer, such as Annabeth, Luke, and Clarisse. Clarisse pushes Percy away and Luke attempts to help her find her place. Percy is seen failing at archery and jokingly commenting that he doesn’t need a sword (which he quickly corrects). The light-hearted approach to Percy is very true to the books, even if these specific moments aren’t taken from the pages.
The trailer includes several glimpses of parts of the camp that fans will be excited to see. From small details, like the necklace around Annabeth’s neck, to Mr. D’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it (jason mantzoukas), camp director and god of wine. The infamous capture-the-flag game also appears when Percy faces off against Clarisse and her electric spear. Even Annabeth has a cameo in the invisible camp. Percy enters the Poseidon cabin, and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) finds his own presence, while Chiron’s voice tells him that his father needs his help. In the trailer, Chiron explains the conflict of the series: the missing Master Bolt, which Percy must find to prevent a war between the gods.
Percy, Annabeth and Grover go on a quest in ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ trailer
Interspersed throughout the trailer are scenes of Percy’s quest and the dangers he faces. The back of Medusa’s head can be seen, and later, Percy fights a fire-breathing beast, possibly the Chimera, as they are in an enclosed space, and in the book, he meets this monster in the St. Louis Arch . Another fan-favorite moment in the trailer is Percy and Annabeth’s experience on a “thrill ride o’ love” in a deserted water park. Even the Lotus Hotel, where the search is delayed for several days, shows up when Hermes visits them.
But, as if this quest doesn’t have enough danger, it also features glimpses of the trio walking through the underworld, encountering the three-headed guard dog Cerberus, and confronting the villain Ares (Adam Copeland), god of war. In an exclusive spoiler clip, Percy can be seen with Master Bolt of Zooey and the Concierge of Olympus. Of course, fans of the book know what to expect, and now new fans know too. The trailer takes viewers into a fast-paced version of Percy’s story, while proving to fans that the show will honor the books, much to their relief.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Will premiere on Disney+ on December 20th.
