Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar courted controversy on Tuesday by giving a strange speech on the importance of women’s education. The comments made in the state assembly have been widely condemned by women legislators and the National Commission for Women. However, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav insisted that the statement ‘should be taken as sex education’.
“Let me tell you one thing. If someone misinterprets this then it is wrong.’ CM’s statement was about sex education. Whenever sex education is talked about, people hesitate. It is now taught in schools. Science and biology are taught in schools. Children learn it. He said that population growth What should be done practically to stop… It should not be taken in a wrong way. It should be taken as sex education…” Yadav told reporters.
The Janata Dal chief can be seen linking the importance of girls’ education to population control and – to a lesser extent – marriage conventions. Some MLAs present there including Yadav were seen laughing at his comment.
BJP members as well as others on social media platforms were less pleased by the comment. Many have condemned the ‘derogatory’ language used by Kumar, while others have demanded an immediate apology.
“There has never been a more indecent leader in Indian politics than Nitish Kumar. It seems that Nitish Babu has been bitten by the bug of ‘adult, B-grade films’. His double entendre comments should be banned. It seems that Bihar BJP “He’s impressed with his company,” he tweeted.
The NCW has also demanded an “immediate and unequivocal apology” from the CM on behalf of all Indian women. Chairperson Rekha Sharma said his ‘derogatory’ comments were ‘an insult to the dignity and respect of every woman’.
“Such derogatory and derogatory language used during his speech is a black spot on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine what horrors the state must be facing under his leadership. We stand firmly against this type of behavior and demand accountability.”
