the next Mass effect The game has been shrouded in mystery since 2020 Revealing the game prizes. November 7 is N7 Day, where BioWare and fans celebrate the sci-fi RPG series. But this year is a little different. The studio gave us some teasers for the next game, at the same time as it laid off QA workers Company picket They demand separation.
Finally, the teasers gave us some solid clues as to what’s next Mass effect It will be about. A December 2020 teaser suggested it would take place long after the original trilogy, with returning castmate Liara T’Soni appearing but looking noticeably older than her young 109 years. BioWare developers had it too It was hinted on social media The next game will be a sequel to both the original trilogy and… Mass Effect: Andromeda (See on Amazon) which took place over 600 years later in a different galaxy. These new teasers confirm these speculations.
The first teaser is five seconds long and was released afterwards Countdown on the Electronic Arts website. The relevant text reads as follows:
////Access code: epsilon
/////Access token accepted
/////Secondary encryption detected
/////Andromeda’s distress signal has been detected
/////Year of dispatch: [REDACTED]
/////Voice transcript: Although they should know by now not to underestimate a human being [REDACTED]
The big reveal here is “Andromeda’s distress signal has been detected,” confirming that the interstellar migration movement from the fourth game will be part of the story BioWare tells next. Fans are speculating It’s possible that Liara and her crew are responding to a distress call, as has been confirmed Andromeda She was in contact with the initiative after they left the Milky Way. What is a distress call? It’s not entirely clear, but considering Kate’s invasion was still happening at the end of 2018 Mass Effect: AndromedaIt’s not like this crew lacks danger.
The actual video doesn’t show much beyond someone, possibly Liara, walking through what looks like a space station before it suddenly fades to black. The audio text on the teaser site was a quote attributed to Liara by Project manager Michael Gamble at N7 Day last yearso it would make sense if it was her in this trailer.
However, there’s a second teaser that makes things more complicated.
This is a continuation of the same clip, but we see the red N7 casing on their lab coat. What remains to be seen is if this is perhaps Liara paying tribute to Commander Shepard, or if BioWare is about to pull some cowardly nonsense from the fans and bring back the old face of the series, 600 years after the trilogy. Liara’s return in the fifth game makes sense because Asari can live for centuries. But Shepard comes back, even then Mass effect 3 The ending where they survive is just boring.
a Third countdown It is scheduled to end at 4pm EST. Please, for the love of God, don’t make him Shepard at the end. Like a long time Mass effect Fan, my biggest curiosity is whether this game will announce a resolution at the end Mass effect 3.
Whatever your feelings about the trilogy’s conclusion, the choice Shepard makes at the end leaves Milky Way in one of several very distinct states, which would seem difficult to write in a way that pays homage to each player’s original decision. I’m still very much against the idea, but I think that with careful writing and ignoring the conflict in the original trilogy, it’s entirely possible to write a fifth installment. Mass effect The game that doesn’t step on everyone’s toes.
